Austin Teens Type 1 Diabetic Force
OUR MISSION - For teens with Type 1 Diabetes and their Parents: To promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being through family support, exchange of information and shared experiences.

This Austin-based group for Type 1 teens was started in 2003 as a result of area teens and their parents feeling an important need to come together for mutual support, the exchange of information, and advocacy for Type 1 teens.

This group meets the second Wednesday of each month, but meeting dates vary depending on holidays and additional group plans. Teens ages 11 – 18 and their parents meet together or separately for activities, discussions and refreshments. Guest speakers provide knowledgeable information for the families on relevant topics.

Special events for the group have included movie and pizza night for the teens, holiday family parties, glow-in-the-dark bowling at UT, car washes to raise funds, picnics and participation as a group in the annual WALK TO CURE DIABETES.

HOTPOD (Heart of Texas Parents of Diabetics)
Heart of Texas Parents of Diabetics (HOTPOD) was founded by JDRF volunteers, Lisa & Jim Straus. It is an e-mail group that enables parents to engage in on-line conversations about diabetes. You can actively participate or sit back and read the e-mails to find out what other parents are talking about. To join, send an e-mail to Lisa Straus and she will add you to the group!
