• encourage others to seek volunteer opportunities with JDRF.

To qualify, the applicant must:
• be a type 1 diabetic.
• be attending, or entering, an Austin/surrounding area high school.
• be articulate and willing to share his/her personal story in front of large groups and with the media.
• have a positive outlook on life and diabetes!

Congratulations to Justin Papermaster for being selected as the Austin Chapter’s 2005-2006 Teen Ambassador! After being diagnosed in 1994 at 6 years old, both Justin’s immediate and extended family rallied around the hope of finding a cure. The Papermasters have since been involved with the Austin chapter’s various fundraising events.

Justin is a senior at St. Stephen’s Episcopal High School where he plays football and lacrosse. His ambition has even led him to start his own business detailing cars. Justin follows diabetes research closely and knows the importance of fundraising to support research, which led him to apply for Teen Ambassador.

“ I want to help explain to people how important a cure is to all the kids and adults that live with juvenile diabetes every day,” Justin says. “I have always dreamed of the day when a cure is discovered.”
